Tom’s kitchen by Tom Aikens was never really on our radar per se. We had heard about him. However, it was only when we sampled a few of his dishes at the Social Sunday we knew we had to go sample his cuisine. Social Sunday pretty much is collaboration between Jason and other chefs who come together and create a one of menu in the aid of charity! The one we attended was this foodie’s dream come true, all my favourite chefs in one place and they cooked up a storm!

L-R: Jason, Tom A and Tom S

Anyway, we decided to try out Tom’s Kitchen, the restaurant in Chelsea. They offer an à la carte menu, but we decided to make up our on mini-taster menu if you like and had a variety of small dishes. I recommend occasionally, when in a restaurant, order a selection of starters. Why? I think it is a good way to see the range of the chef, you get to taste a variety of dishes which could lead to very interesting food experience!

When it comes to foie gras, I prefer pan fried instead of a pâté. I have found with pâté foie gras; it tastes more bitter and fattier than when it is pan fried. I know, I know, that is what foie gras is – the liver of duck or goose that has been specially fattened ha! Anyho, Chef Dan’s foie gras was darn good – served with brioche and nuts! The different textures really brought out the uniqueness of the dish, it was a pimped-out foie gras!

what comes to mind when you hear tomato salad? I think leafy salad with some cherry tomatoes, dressing kinda like what you see in the grocery store right? well folks, tomato salad can literally just be a variety of tomatoes tossed together with dressing and voila! tomato salad. Chef Dan’s tomato salad was just that and it was gorgeous and my second favourite. First place still goes to Cinc Sentis. Ahh Cinc Sentis, the genesis of our food adventures *sigh* Right, back to this salad then. It was a burst of colour – red (the tomatoes) spots of green and black (leaves) tossed in olive oil with a speck of salt. Simply made and yet, such a delight on the palate – fresh tasting with a hint of sweet and sour, the perfect light bite.

I have to say, all the other dishes sampled were equally delicious – the salt marsh lamb, scallops, even the darn spring beans had an edge!

Now y’all know Neal has a thing for chocolate and if you don’t know, well he does. He is such a sweet tooth lawwwwdddd this man you see? Can’t keep his hands of sweets lol! He had the biggest smile on his face when Chef Dan served up his milk chocolate and peanut butter parfait. When I think parfait, I think layers and mousse? This was more than that – chocolate layers in the form of a thick block with peanut butter on the top and chocolate ice cream! OMG! It tasted sinfully good, an arrest on your senses! IT WAS YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!  And rated 5 stars by the chocolate expert, Neal – he loveeeeeddddd it

Even though we didn’t do a full taster menu, the food was delish. We defo going on more food adventures at other restaurants run by Tom!

Cheers
